An innovative way to substitute disposable coffee cups.

Because of the heightened concern in waste management many coffee shops were required to stop using disposable cups, that is why a Berlin backyard start-up company reused the old recyclable coffee grounds to create reusable coffee cups and has won the red dot product design award 2018 for its innovative creation.

Julian Lechner a German native is the designer of the innovative reusable coffee cups made of old coffee grounds with natural glues to create a new material.

Lechner started this project by collecting old coffee grounds from local cafes in Berlin. He then combines the old coffee grounds with natural glues and wood particles from sustainable sources to produce a liquid that can be molded to create the reusable cups.

“As the global coffee consumption is steadily growing, the coffee grounds that are basically waste will be available en masse‘” Lechner says. “Kaffeeform uses this wasted resources, to create a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to products based on mineral oils.”

The cups are dishwasher friendly, durable which can be used for a couple of times. Kaffeeform has three coffee cups design that is ideal for your espresso featuring a handle on the side and a matching curved saucer, cappuccino cups and a takeaway styled cup.

The cups are available for purchase from the Kaffeeform website and can be purchased as individual units, or in sets of 4, 6 and 8.
