Mint Mocha Cappuccino

Mint Mocha Cappuccino: There’s nothing like a hot cup of cappuccino…except when that cappuccino is mojito flavored. If you’ve never had a mojito cappuccino, count yourself among the undiscovered cappuccino enthusiasts in this world.

Follow this awesome recipe and give your taste buds a sweet treat with a cold mint mocha cappuccino.

Ingredients:

You will need:

  • 1 cup of skim milk/whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons of mint syrup
  • 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup (or try a combination of chocolate and vanilla syrups)
  • Two shots of espresso or one cup of strong brewed coffee
  • Whipped cream (if desired)
  • Sprinkles (if desired)

Step 1: Espresso

To start, you will need 2 cups of espresso. To make espresso from scratch, add finely ground coffee beans to the portafilter and tamp the grinds down firmly. Place an empty cup under the portafilter and turn on the pump to begin brewing. The espresso will be ready once it flows out of the portafilter in a dark brown stream with no chunks or grinds in it.

You can also use instant espresso powder as a substitute for freshly brewed espresso if you don’t have an espresso machine. Let’s move on to step 3!

Step 2: Milk

In a small saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until steaming. (If you’re in a hurry, use a microwave-safe cup and bring milk to temperature in the microwave.)

Step 3: Chocolate Syrup

  • If you don’t have chocolate syrup, you can substitute it with 6 tablespoons of hot chocolate mix or cocoa powder and a few teaspoons of sugar.
  • You can also use chocolate chips, which you can melt on their own or in a saucepan with milk and then add to the drink.
  • Use any flavor of chocolate syrup you like – dark, milk, or white chocolate. You can also use chocolate sauce if that’s what you have on hand.

Step 4: Mint Flavoring Syrup

Mint flavoring syrup can be found in any supermarket or convenience store. It is not the same as mint extract! Flavoring syrup is usually more liquidy and less concentrated than extract.

The mint flavor isn’t super strong, but add an extra ⅛ teaspoon of syrup to your cup if you want more of a kick. If you’re still not satisfied, try stirring in some peppermint extract (or fresh peppermint leaves), which is stronger and more potent than flavoring syrup but also adds a different taste to your drink.

Step 5: Creamy Cinnamon Flavored Coffee Syrup

To make it, you need:

  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon powder
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 2 cups water

Directions: In a saucepan, add cinnamon powder and sugar. Mix well. Add water and mix well. Add cream and mix well. Bring to boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for 10 minutes or until the syrup is reduced by half its original volume.

Let it cool completely and store in a sterilized container or jar in the refrigerator for up to one month.

Optional Ingredients

1. Whipped Cream (Optional Topping)

If you’re looking for a simple way to top off your cappuccino, you can’t go wrong with whipped cream. This topping is creamy, sweet, and fluffy – the perfect complement to this rich drink. It also helps cut through some of the espresso bitterness.

Just make sure you use fresh (not processed) whipped cream. The artificial stuff won’t give you that rich flavor or fluffy texture that homemade whipped cream will!

2. Chocolate Shavings or Sprinkles (Optional Topping)

The recipe calls for chocolate shavings or sprinkles. Add them to give your mint mocha cappuccino a nice touch if they aren’t already included.

Directions to Make Mint Mocha Cappuccino:

  • Add all the ingredients to a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring well. Bring to a slight boil, then reduce the heat to low and add chocolate syrup, mint flavoring, and creamy cinnamon flavored coffee syrup. Stir well, heating for an additional minute or until desired thickness is achieved.
  • Remove from heat and serve in mugs with freshly whipped cream sprinkled with a dash of cinnamon. You’ll know it’s ready when you see steam begin to rise from the surface of the drink; at this point, it should not be boiling.

Remember: Do not let your mint mocha cappuccino come to a boil!

For those who want a smooth cappuccino without any lumps in it: Use an electric frother or hand blender to mix all ingredients after step 2. Then follow from step 3 onward as mentioned above.
