What is the difference between chocolate chip and chocolate chunk cookies?
The main difference lies in the type of chocolate used. Chocolate chip cookies use uniform, small chips that melt slightly but hold their shape. In contrast, chocolate chunk cookies are made with chopped pieces of real chocolate bars, giving each bite a mix of melted pools and thick chunks, richer, gooier, and more indulgent.
Can I use chocolate chunks instead of chocolate chips in cookies?
Absolutely! You can swap chocolate chunks for chips in nearly any cookie recipe. Just be sure to chop your chocolate into even pieces so they melt evenly. Chunks create a more rustic, bakery-style texture and a deeper cocoa flavor
What is the secret to chunky cookies?
The secret is all in the dough texture and chilling time. Use slightly less flour for softness, don’t overmix the dough, and chill it for at least 30 minutes before baking. This keeps the cookies thick and chewy instead of spreading too thin. Using cold butter and chunky chocolate pieces also helps create that perfect chunky texture.
