Detroit was known as the Motor City, and the first city in the world to have an urban freeway. Today Detroit is not only the first city in development and infrastructures, but the city is also thriving in their coffee chains.
The city has now several new small batches of micro-roasters emerging throughout in the downtown corridor. And most of their cafes are taking advantage of locally sourced beans and cultivating a unique atmosphere for their customers.
With numbers of a great coffee shop in the city, it is hard to choose which coffee shop is the best to get caffeinated. Below is a list of the coffee shop in Detroit where you can get coffee this Spring,
1. Detroit Vintage
This Detroit Vintage’s coffee shop offered a pour-over or french press coffee, and the shop has various cakes available by-the-slice. This whimsical cafe is a great spot to relax with a cup of coffee or tea right off of Eight Mile.
2. Detroit Sip
The Bagley coffee shop offers comfortable bright space to get some work or studying done while enjoying their espresso, and other coffee drinks. Detroit Sip keeps customers fed with assorted locally-made snacks including cakes, brownies, doughnuts, soup, and chips.
3 Always Brewing Detroit
Serving locally-sourced pastries, and a rotating selection of Michigan roasted coffees, the shop is also a community gathering space hosting yoga and other arts-focused events.
4. Oloman Café
Nestled in the heart of downtown Hamtramck, this understated cafe serves all the coffee, and espresso standards as well as a selection of paninis and French-style pastries from Golden Wheat Bakery.
5. The Red Hook Detroit
The shops pour Stumptown Coffee and brew a very tasty chai but what sets them apart from the pack is the wide selection of housemade baked goods — both sweet and savory.
6. Bottom Line Coffee House
This welcoming, below-street-level café caters towards college crowds and is close to many Midtown hot spots. In addition to making french pressed coffee and espresso, this spot regularly hosts open mics and arts events.
7. Cairo Coffee
Hidden in a corner of Eastern Market’s Savvy Chic shop, Cairo Coffee owner Monica Isaac brews beans from a rotating selection of respected roasters including Madcap Coffee in Grand Rapids and Counter Culture Coffee in North Carolina. Drop in and grab a pour-over or an espresso drink.
8. Germack Coffee Roasting Company
Germack is known for two things: pistachios and coffee. The Eastern Market roastery offers a wide selection of wholesale beans as well as smaller packaged coffees for home brewing needs. The shop also houses a popular cafe ready to fix up a latte or hot tea.
9. New Order Coffee Roasters
New Order features a bright white, minimalist interior with lots of seating and large windows overlooking Woodward Avenue and Watson street. The shop roasts its beans in small batches and offers a variety of espresso drinks and coffee dressed up with colorful M&Ms or fluffy flavored marshmallows.
10. Astro Coffee
A beloved spot on Michigan Avenue, Astro Coffee offers more than a caffeine buzz. The shop’s selection of sandwiches (the egg sandwich is legendary) and other baked goods are some of the best in the city.
