Most Americans are fuel by coffee and donuts, that is why Dunkin Donuts is a well-known brand in the U.S. With the global campaign of waste management Dunkin Donuts have built their first 275-square-foot tiny home at NYC’s Madison Square Park. The home is called “Home That Runs on Dunkin’” is powered by an eco-friendly biofuel produced out of recycled old coffee grounds.
Dunkin Donuts tiny home is a collaboration project with the company and builder New Frontier Tiny Home. The house is a custom build trailer with wheels for easy transport. It’s unique features and design was inspired by the Dunkin Donuts dark, rich coffee and bright orange and pink logo.
Inside the house is a cozy, bright space with cladding in dark, black-stained cedar, inspired by the color of a cup of coffee. On the corners, you can see weathered steel panels add an industrial touch. Though this home is tiny it includes a masters bedroom that fits a king size bed, with a spa-like bathroom, a chef’s kitchen with high-end appliances and, an elevated dining area, with an extra-large window that brings in natural light.
The interior designer of Dunkin Donuts Tiny Home was managed by the fabulous actress Olivia Wilde, who’s concept is fresh and modern. The entire house apprehends a warm living space just like a hot cup of coffee, with the iconic touch of Dunkin Donuts pink and orange logo. The home furnishing is made out of reclaimed materials that are multifunctional for a better space living.
The center of attraction of Dunkin Donuts tiny home is its clean energy, which is produced out of recycled coffee grounds. Developed by Blue Marble Biomaterials, a sustainable biochemical company, the home runs on biofuel converted out of approximately 65,000 pounds of used coffee grounds. To create the biofuel, excess oils in the coffee grounds are extracted and then mixed with alcohol to undergo a chemical reaction known as transesterification. This process produces a biodiesel that burns efficiently. Once the biodiesel is washed and refined, it is ready to be used as fuel through the use of a standard biofuel generator. According to the project description, 170 pounds of recycled coffee grounds produce about one gallon of fuel.
