It is made by roasting, grounding and brewing the whole coffee beans. After this, the water is removed, leaving dehydrated crystals. In the end, water is added again, making them back into coffee. After this, a firm known as The Paterson Company of Glasgow produced “Camp Coffee” in the late 19th century. This was a liquid made of water, sugar, essence and chicory. During the Civil War, soldiers of the United States used instant coffees to increase their energy levels.
